Ā

Demographic megatrends are rapidly shaping societies around the world.Ā  By 2050, the number of people 65 and older is expected to reach 1.5 billion. Ā Policymakers must address these demographic shifts to promote sustainable development and social progress, while facing fiscal pressures and potential trade-offs. While social protection programs supporting low-income older adults exist, such as social pension schemes, there is limited experience in economic inclusion activities designed specifically for them.

Economic inclusion programs can boost the income and assets of the worldā€™s poorest individuals and households with a ā€œbig pushā€ of coordinated interventions. These programs can provide employment opportunities, entrepreneurship support, financial literacy and access to credit and capital for older adults. Given the rapid pace of aging globally and the positive experiences of economic inclusion programs with other vulnerable populations, we ask ourselves -- Can economic inclusion approaches address the socioeconomic needs of older adults and improve their lives and communities?

Join us on March 16th for a PEI Open House in partnership with the Longevity Seminar Series hosted by the World Bank to learn more. The session will convene representatives from the Government of Peru, NGO Help Age, and the Social Protection and Jobs World Bank Global Practice. Their unique experience will spark a vibrant conversation around the design and impact of programs for older adults with an economic inclusion component.
