Economic Inclusion and the National Rural Livelihoods Mission in India

The webinar presented an overview of the Jeevika program in the state of Bihar, India. Jeevika is one of the world’s largest programs for strengthening rural financial inclusion and livelihoods and operates as part of India’s National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). This webinar has presented implementation perspectives on how Jeevika has leveraged communities, built on livelihood and financial inclusion platforms. Recent efforts to expand toward more vulnerable population groups under the Satat Jeevikoparjan Yojana (SJY) program were discussed as well.

The SJY is a new recent initiative devised to integrate 100,000 of the poorest and most vulnerable of the state’s households within the self-help group infrastructure. The SJY explores new pathways for scale-up by leveraging Jeevika's community institutions and financial inclusion infrastructure to implement the program and relies on members of the community as front-line implementers.

The panelists for this webinar included experts from Jeevika as well as the key technical partners Bandhan Konnagar and J-PAL.
